Many of our harp guitar friends are bringing the whole family and making HGG15 part of their
dream vacation.

Below is a list of a few of
our favorite spots!

Carlsbad area

  • Legoland (for builders of all ages)
  • The Crossings Golf Course (the course where we're holding Sunday night's dinner is gorgeous)
  • Green Dragon Tavern & Museum (good food and small but fascinating American Colonial History museum)
  • Best rated Breweries – tours, tastings
  • Temecula – Wine tasting
  • Of course, The Museum of Making Music, and we're holding the Gathering there!
Coming in your RV?  There are plenty of campgrounds and parks within a 30 mile radius.  Check the Good Sam Club for a list.

San Diego area

  • Balboa Park - museums, gardens, sports, hiking, architecture & more
  • San Diego Zoo (arguably the nation's finest, and I should know; you do know Gregg was a zookeeper once, right?)
  • San Diego Zoo Safari Park (if you don't do zoos, do this)
  • The Beach (anywhere: marinas, roller skating, Sea World, etc.)
  • Hotel del Coronado (oft used as a film location:  Some Like it Hot, The Stunt Man, Beyond the Rocks, My Blue Heaven)

North of Carlsbad (Orange County)

  • Disneyland (Gregg's second home. Now twice as big with California Adventure)
  • Bowers Museum (the Tao boat in the lobby appears on SB's Tribute CD cover; always has great special exhibits)
  • Discovery Cube (nice Science Center for all ages)
  • Knott's Berry Farm (for Wild West and/or Snoopy fans, rides galore)

Farther North (Los Angeles County)

  • Long Beach (the iconic Queen Mary and Aquarium of the Pacific)
  • Hollywood, the land of dreams (for obsessive tourists only)
  • Universal Studios - amusement park and tours (already worth a visit, but now includes the wonderful Harry Potter World)
  • Paramount Pictures or Warner Brothers Studios - tours
  • Griffith Park Observatory (currently with resident mountain lion in the park)
  • The Getty Museum & the Getty Villa (both favorites)
  • Natural History Museum - dinosaurs, gems, California history
  • California Science Center - Space Shuttle Endeavor
  • Pasadena - Huntington Library & Gardens (the best of our grand estates turned into public destination spots)
  • Car Museums (two of the very best: Peterson Automotive Museum and Nethercutt Museum, which also has a stunning collection of automatic musical instruments)
  • The Miner Museum of Vintage, Exotic & Just Plain Unusual Musical Instruments
  • Beaches (up the entire coast: Venice, Santa Monica, Malibu)
